SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Both William Regal and Edge said they wanted to show the fans something different Sunday at Vengeance. After the match, all indications were that they succeeded.

Regal's goal was to show a more aggressive side, while Edge aimed to prove that he could take the punishment.

"Not to sound like I have a big head," Regal said, "but I can probably do that technical wrestling as good as anybody. But it doesn't really matter if you want to be a villain."

So Regal utilize brass knuckles -- as he has done often as of late -- and he attempted to brutalize with successive powerbombs, takedowns with his knee to the back of Edge's neck and other sadistic maneuvers. But Edge was able to repeatedly kick out of pin attempts.

"Edge has a tough side," Edge said moments after the match. "We tried to erase some of the pretty boy stigma tonight."

Both Regal and Edge said that they're wrestling styles are different, but they blended together well on Sunday. Edge said he used more mat wrestling that he's done in months, but that was OK with him.

"I can do it, but I haven't done it in years," Edge said.

Both men said they were fine after the match. Regal didn't even get a nosebleed, as antibiotics that he's been prescribed have healed the infection in his nose.

For Edge, a successful title defense against Regal can only boost his stock as we inch closer to WrestleMania X-8, which is March 17 in Edge's hometown of Toronto.

"I want to try and be a huge part of it," Edge said. "I'm sure everybody in the company does. But I'd be happy just to be on that show."
